Intaba Thulile,
“peaceful mountain”,
is a 450 hectare private game farm within the Magaliesburg
Nature Conservancy.
As it is within easy access to Johannesburg
- approximately 80km west - and some 90km's from Pretoria,
it is a perfect distance for a ‘getaway’ weekend
for those seeking refuge from the rigors of urban stress.
The rolling savannah grassland plain, pristine
bush, and the distinctive suikerbos and kiepersol tress
are guarded over by the imposing amber cliffs of the mountain.
With its abundant birdlife; and variety
of trees, ferns, flowers and grasses, the reserve is a delight
for birdwatchers and nature lovers. It is a paintbox of
colours : greens of every hue; reds, yellows, whites, blues
and pinks of the many flowers – aloes, daisies, gladiola,
wild dagga, morning glory, cats whiskers, star lily to mention
but a few.
Game viewers will not be disappointed,
as the reserve is home to a variety of buck as well as
warthog, jackal, ostriches, and a pair of gorgeous, graceful
giraffe,
The reserve includes 2,5 kilometres
of the Magaliesburg mountain range where one can wander
in awe, and see cape vultures and black eagles circling
on the air current. Mountain reedbuck, grey rhebok, duiker,
klipspringers, baboons, jackal, genet, Cape hares, dassies,
porcupines all have their home here. The rock formations
are fascinating and there are little surprises to enchant
you, such as a circle of rocks to ponder over. The rose
quartz glints in the sunlight and the gorges, with their
dense indigenous trees and ferns, beg to be explored.
